Yeah, animated gifs… a file format from the past that most would pass off as annoying or purely functional. But photographer Jamie Beck and motion graphic artist Kevin Burg use this function to add another dimension to still photography. After several hours of painstaking editing, the end result is called a cinemagraph. Somewhere in between a photo and a video… the effect is slightly eerie but utterly captivating. Its the subtle areas of movement that grab your attention and make it almost magical. I’m guessing we’ll see a lot more applications like this in the future.
