Veterans + Artists United

[Has Heart] is on a 2-year mission traveling the country partnering a U.S. Veteran with a graphic designer in every state. I was so fortunate to be involved as the designer for this project as the team made their way to Alaska.

The Michigan-based nonprofit organization [Has Heart] is visiting all 50 states for a project called “50 States: Veterans + Artists United.” The project partners one Veteran with one designer in each state with the mission to share that Veteran’s story through the mediums of art, design, and fashion. Each collaboration will be made into a limited edition t-shirt and an embroidered patch with proceeds going directly back to the Veteran. Learn more.

Personally, I love learning and gaining new perspectives. Before this project, my experience with the military has been few and far between. And thinking about it, that’s probably true for most civilians. So often we’re exposed to the military as an entity and not the individuals.

Working on this project for the past two days has been personally rewarding. Not only did I get the chance to meet and gain the perspective of two extraordinary Veterans, but I was able to help them tell their story through design. I’m honored to be a part of the process and super excited for the project launch. Stay tuned! There’s more to come.
